We will be a leading fender system manufacturer
Seazone (CEO Yong Joo Shin) announced that it will participate in the ’13th International Maritime Defense Industry Exhibition (MADEX 2023)’ held at BEXCO Exhibition Hall 1 in Busan from June 7 (Wed) to June 9 (Fri). Established in 1997, Seazone Co., Ltd. manufactures and supplies Foam Filled Fenders (Marine Fenders), which are used for the safe berthing of ships in ports. Foam Filled Fenders are special items that can protect ship hulls and dock walls during docking or mooring. There is a global trend of applying Foam Filled Fenders to aging dock walls or newly constructed docks, and demand for them is increasing day by day. Especially, they are widely used and supplied as Navy Fenders for not only the South Korean navy but also the U.S. navy. Seazone has improved the quality and durability of its products with its proprietary 4-axis winding process technology, which sets them apart from other companies’ products. The use of the product has been verified for its excellent quality in domestic and overseas renowned shipbuilders, port dock operation management companies, and related industries, possessing international competitiveness.
According to a Seazone representative, “Domestic ports are becoming Northeast Asia’s logistics hub. Responding to increasing water traffic, continuous establishment, reinforcement, and expansion of port facilities are needed. The importance of safe berth facilities is increasingly emphasized as ships become larger and the frequency of mooring increases. However, currently supplied products remain vulnerable and tend to be easily damaged.” Seazone aims to contribute to the development of ports by supplying products with improved quality and durability. They plan to widen the selection of products available in the market and explore overseas markets by supplying domestically produced Foam Filled Fenders as alternatives to imports.
“Foam Filled Fenders are widely applied and supplied as mooring facility materials in the navy and coastguard docks,” the representative said. “The product’s quality is excellent, enough to supply to the US Navy, but it hasn’t been widely adopted in foreign navies, particularly in the Middle East and Oceania. Therefore, Seazone aims to introduce the product and have technical meetings with navy and coastguard officials from various countries at the MADEX International Exhibition.”
The main purpose of participating in the exhibition is to replace imported high-quality, low-cost Fenders as a Korean Foam Filled Fender manufacturer and explore new supply routes in overseas markets since the domestic Fender industry relies on imports from China and the United States.
Seazone’s Foam Filled Fenders are currently supplied to various ports both domestically and internationally, in addition to shipyards and navies including the U.S. Navy. Seazone is also responding to requests and demand for berth facility designs in overseas markets. The company expects to expand its export routes in the future as they are participating in dock design projects in Singapore and overseas countries, such as supplying a large amount of Foam Filled Fenders to US Guam Naval Base for an overseas project this year. In addition, they have supplied a Φ4,500X7,000L specification Foam Filled Fender to a shipyard for a domestic project. There are two types of floating marine fenders, Foam Filled Fenders and Pneumatic Fenders, with significantly different materials, structures, and compression mechanisms. The most important features of Fenders required by shipyards and navies are compression recovery rate, low reaction force, and high energy absorption. To achieve this, Seazone is developing a Hybrid-Foam Filled Fender that maintains the advantages of existing Foam Filled Fenders while combining the fast compression recovery rate of Pneumatic Fenders with a new manufacturing process and has already applied for a patent last year. Seazone plans to enter the product mass production phase soon, as they have completed the production of prototype products and are currently extracting performance data.
Seazone Co., Ltd. was established in 1997 and has been designing and manufacturing fenders used for ship berthing.
